Professional Achievements
1965 to 1975
– John’s parents Norm and Julliette migrate from Lebanon to Australia. John begins his work as a Paperboy.
– John changes his career and works as a Machine Operator in Marshals Battery Factory, located in Canterbury
1975 to 1985
– First Caltex franchise site opens in 1978, located in Lakemba.
– John learns to become a Mechanic, while his father runs the Forecourt.
– In 1981, Caltex offers more sites to John, growing the site list to over 42 sites.
1985 to 1995
Franchises grew to over 70 Locations of a mixture of Caltex and Mobil sites
John and George was the first to be part of Mobils Rafs Program as he was always willing to change and adapted to the market
– First to implement bulk pallet sales on forecourt
1995 to 2010
– Ampol and Caltex merged, inspiring John, and his brother George to create Metro Petroleum,
Built their own independent tobacco distribution, distributing over 34.2% of the independence distribution of tobacco.
A fire burnt 19million in Tabacco
– Purchases Hill & Co from Exxon Mobil, which included 18 trucks, 4 depos, and 15 sites also giving national distribution
– Decided to concentrate on 1 business, leading them to sell other businesses at the time including travel agents, night clubs, carwashes and the tabacco business
1985 to 1995
– Entered the state of Victoria in 2013
– Metro Zone was created in 2015
Petite Cafe was created in 2021, selling over 20 tonnes of coffee per Annum.
Mr whippy Australia was purchased in 2021 with over 120 locations
– Today Metro Petroleum is the largest Independent Fuel Retailer in NSW and ACT, with over 319 locations.
